The water that arrives at our taps has been through a cleansing process, which is what makes it safe to consume. But sometimes, this supply can be compromised. That’s why Service Today offers residents all over Australia expert backflow prevention services, to stop unclean water from being drawn into your water system.
Our expert plumbers can have a backflow prevention device installed at your home, which protects your drinking water supply from contamination or pollution. This usually happens because of a process called siphonage, which is a build up of pressure at a source that is larger than the water pressure in your pipes. We can help you avoid any potential plumbing problems or emergencies now, and you can trust Service Today’s plumbers to be at your doorstep whenever you need.
Our plumbing professionals are fully licensed and certified to repair and maintain backflow hazard devices such as RPZDs or ‘reduced pressure zone devices’, check valves and double check valves. For highly qualified water services, complete with compliance certification, call the experts over at Service Today now on our 24/7 customer care line at 1300 725 760, or book your appointment online today.

The first thing to do if you have a burst or leaking pipe is to turn the water off at its source or the main water supply, located just inside the property boundary. In an apartment, this may be below the laundry or kitchen sink. This will stop (or at least reduce) the water flow prior to your technician arriving on site.
Toilets can be turned off via the tap located close to the cistern, or sometimes inside the cistern itself. In some cases, sinks and basins may have a shut off located under the sink.
Leaks can be one of the major reasons for increased water bills. Service Today can help with any water or pipe leak detection, but there is also a simple test you can carry out yourself to check if there is a leak in your home.
Note: this test should be conducted over a 30-minute period, during which time no water is being used on the property.
Find your water meter, which is usually located in front of the home in a covered box near the street.
Write down the numbers indicated on the meter at the start of this test.
Return to check the meter reading after 30 minutes have passed.
If the numbers have not changed, you most likely do not have a leak in your pressurised water system.
Shut off the valves under all toilets in the house, and repeat steps 1-3.
If the numbers have not changed, it seems that your pipe and toilet systems do not have a leak.
If the numbers have changed, this indicates water being consumed – even though water was not actually being used during the test. In this case, it is highly recommended that you call Service Today and arrange for a professional leak detection to be conducted on your property.
Since gas is a highly flammable substance, gas leaks need to be treated with urgency. In the event of a suspected gas leak, follow these steps:
Locate your gas meter, which is normally found at the front of your property. It will have a yellow handle that you need to turn 90 degrees, so that it sits perpendicular with the gas pipe. That will shut off the gas supply coming into the home.
Call Service Today immediately and book a technician to come and inspect the property ASAP.
It could be several things, however it’s possible that you have a water leak coming from somewhere. Your best option is to arrange for a Service Today representative to carry out leak detection on your property, as the cause of the mark could be one of a few things.
It appears you may be experiencing ‘water hammer’. Water hammer is caused by vibrations in pipes that are not secured properly. This can often be fixed with arrestors, so give Service Today a call and get one of our expert technicians to inspect your piping and determine the cause of the noise.
