Sometimes the most important question is the simplest one.
At Service Today, we spend a lot of time talking about looking after our homes, our families and the things that matter most to us.
But this September, there’s another important reminder worth making time for.
Thursday, 10 September is R U OK? Day – a national day of action encouraging Australians to check in with the people around them and start a meaningful conversation.
Life gets busy. Between work, family, bills, school runs and everything else that fills our weeks, it can be easy to miss when someone close to us isn’t quite themselves.
You don’t ned to have all the answers. Sometimes simply noticing, asking the question and genuinely listening can mean more than you realise.
R U OK? recommends four simple steps: Ask R U OK? → Listen → Encourage action → Check in.
And it doesn’t need to wait until 10 September. Regular conversations help build trust and make it easier for the people in our lives to speak up when things aren’t going so well.
A LITTLE CHALLENGE FROM OUR TEAM TO YOURS
This week, think of one person you haven’t properly checked in with for a while.
A mate. A sibling. A neighbour. A workmate. Mum or Dad.
Give them a call, grab a coffee, go for a walk or simply send them a message.
Ask the question. And make the time to hear the answer.
Because looking after each other is just as important as looking after the place we call home.
