The first thing to do if you have a burst or leaking pipe is to turn the water off at its source or the main water supply, located just inside the property boundary. Since gas is a highly flammable substance, gas leaks need to be treated with urgency. In the event of a suspected gas leak, follow these steps:

1. Locate your gas meter, which is normally found at the front of your property. It will have a yellow handle that you need to turn 90 degrees, so that it sits perpendicular with the gas pipe. That will shut off the gas supply coming into the home.
